Golly Ned!! What a mess. I guess I was always just one of those JW's who heard the information and formed my own beliefs and thoughts. Never even realized this was an issue until this thread got started. I guess it pays to be in the dark sometimes!

Hello MissGuided,
And Welcome!!
All the posts here seem accurate to me.
Just a side thought. It really does depend on the area you live in as to how JW's excersize their conscience. I lived in a remote area of WV for seventeen years, and they considered it an absolute no no to go into a church for any reason.
Guess I've always been a rebel. I went to two funerals in the same church for a lady I studied with. She lost two of her children. One was a still birth the other was about two years old. Ironically it was the very church the other Witnesses wouldn't set foot in for their own relatives funeral. Whatever, I always thought it brought a stench on JW's name to refuse to go. But that is just me.

Welcome Smartgirl!!!
Sorry my husband was hogging the computer all weekend. Didn't get a chance to say Hey!
It takes a while to figure out the code, but once you do it is easy. Just click on add emotions. Look at the formula to type for a certain icon type it into your message where you want it and when you are finished writing you post and click on reply to topic it will appear automatically in your post as the icon you chose. Quoting is a little more strenuous. If you want to quote someone type. Then highlight the part in the post click on edit click on copy, click on paste back up in edit then type:
. It isn't as difficult as it sounds.
Appreciate some of your thoughts. I too am married to a worldly man. The second time around is definitely better. (first time to a ex-bethlite, hell on earth)
Keep posting, love hearing new thoughts and input.

Eyes Wide Open,
I too have pondered these questions. And the "Does God Care" brochure just didn't cut it for me. It doesn't explain why if you happen to be born in a certain place your life is shit and if in another you are blessed with freedom and food to eat. I don't think a caring God would pick and choose innocent children to bless or curse that way.
As Larc said, I would much rather have open eyes and mind any day. Even if answers aren't neatly packaged canned thoughts.
You keep thinking girl. It is what keeps us alive and well.

Is it Biblical to Shun??
by charlie ini'm not a witness, but i know one very well and we have had many discussions on various topics.
we would both like to know, however, if it is biblical to shun the disfellowshipped/disassociated?
where in the bible does the society base the practice of shunning or groveling back for a long period of time if a person is sorry and wants to return to the church?

I think the scripture that grabbed my attention was the one that said "quit mixing in company with ANYONE CALLED A BROTHER". 1 Cor.5:11
Anyone who disassociates themselves, obviously does not want to known as a Witness anymore.
So in view of this scripture as well as the statement from the Flock book, this scripture would not apply to anyone in this position. It negates applying any of the rest of the scriptures used to support not associating with these ones.

When should you Disassociate yourself?
by happytobefree ini have been having discussion with my sister (relative), who is an active witness, about writing a letter of disassociation.
the reason being is that i have not attended the meetings in over a year and it's been 4 years since i have went out in the jw ministry.. i going to try to sum this topic up.
my sister think that i should not da myself because i have not done any immoral act in her thinking.

Interesting that you should mention this Simon. I know someone this happened to. They visited her and told her she had two weeks to make a decision. At this point in time they had absolutely no proof of wrongdoing on her part. Two weeks later they showed up at her door again and asked what her decision was. She refused to discuss anything with them. A couple of weeks later an announcement was made at the KH.
I am glad you shared this Simon. I was shocked by her story. I still thought they might have limits. But apparently not. Since this is happening in other places as well.

Are you Ex's still Christian?
by joel inwhassup guys.
i've spent most of my web time over the last 2 years at another site full of ex-jdubs...i'd say about 50 people post there on occasion...many of that number regularly.. what struck me from the beginning, as i got to know the people posting there was...how many were now atheists...non-believers in god...the bible...pretty much anything they once held sacred as jw's!.
i dare say...90 some % do not consider themselves christian now!.

I have appreciated this thread so much, because it has afforded us the opportunity to know each other better.
I too am of the mind that I never want to force my beliefs on others. But it is oh so interesting to hear about others! And who knows but that by hearing we could learn something.
One of my big problems with the Witnesses is that there is no room for thinking and hearing and comparing. This is a serious lack. For we can grow just by having the luxury of allowing our minds to be open.
Larc,
I very much appreciated your opening up. And I think it takes a big person to admit that they don't really know. Much bigger than someone who spouts off canned teachings.
Many of your thoughts were similiar to my husband's and mine. But even if they weren't, I would still find it intriguing.

Unity-the 2nd time around
by JAVA insomeone looked at my web page and sent the following:.
"it seems that whenever ex jw's read about other ex jw's stories and points of view, we feel like, at some point, we've read each other's minds!
everything makes sense!".

p.s. Java
Was it Kahlil Gibran who said, "we return and know it for the first time"?
Sounds like from his book The Prophet.
